Daily His advice

Remembering He loves me

I’m training for the day
When storms rule the way

Surrender builds my strength

Living well
See my things
All around is wealth
My heart deceives me

Out of control
Self maintained
Refusing Jesus’ way
Calling my shots today

Seeking after fleeting fame
I want them to remember my name
Never said but always there
The drive to be in control

All around is pain and strife
Deep within I’ve lost my life
Selfish ends create the means
Stand aside for me

Strangers die
And I don’t care
I clutch my cloak
Refuse to share

Who am I to change the world?
Yet live like kings
Who’ve gone before
I want my way each day

Too late in life
I find the truth
Great wealth resides in me
Giving sets it free

Living well requires my life
I give of all I have
And treasures grow from what I give
Giving sets me free

A mom’s mom
Queen of our house
Keeping us together
Through sun and cloud

Quick to listen
Strong in the test
She knows our heartaches
And loves us best

Each one of the children
Were molded by her
A model of strength
Opportunity to grow

Never a whimper
In the face of great pain
She stood up to death
Remaining the same

A rock, a shield
Our home is her rule
A sanctuary of peace
Joy from her cool

I love this woman
Almost forty years
I am enabled
Because she gives

She gives of her wisdom

Living blind

A sober time

That few could know
The promise of life
Health and all

College came

All good things come from God
Not all good things for me
Those good things I need to serve
Are expressly routed to me

Miracles push me to His door
Reminding me of His charge
Giving me the encouragement I need
When I’m in the service of God

No story tells of miracles done
Because of someone’s strength
They always reach from God to man
To be used for Jesus to speak

Listen as you walk through life
Look at the things you have
What is Christ charging you with?
His road never has a crowd

Remember you belong to Him
His love encircles your life
Accept His gifts and do your thing
In service of Jesus Christ

Don’t look to me
To judge your worth
I’m on a different road
Keep your eyes on your goal

ACT I-DEVOTIONS IN THE PLAY OF LIFE

Life is a struggle for each one of us. Those with great gifts and those with few gifts face the same challenge-How do I make what I am doing meaningful and valuable?

I want to feel valuable and at the same time know that the things I am saying and doing have meaning and worth in the marketplace. People live life so quickly. So many things that happen make little sense. I even surprise myself at how cold and uncaring I can be. How can I change this impending sense of uselessness?

I must submit myself to Jesus each day. The submission process becomes a journey of discovery. I cannot think divine thoughts but I can let the Lord express His divine ideas and thoughts in me. The Spirit of God lives in me and will guide me each moment. My submission permits Christ to express Himself in me. Daily devotion begins with me.

Step one is a call for me to recognize the Almighty. The Lord loves me and lives in me. I adore the Lord and seek to know Him more. A moment or an hour is important for me to think about the majesty and power and grace and mercy of a loving Father who gave life to me. Salvation is free but it wasn’t cheap. His grace is complete and I belong to Him. Adoration is an important step one each day in focusing my life in Christ.

Step two is automatic. When I stand before the Lord I will always be convicted of my sin. Sin is self-centeredness. Sin involves doing my life my way. Sin is pervasive and insidious and is the cause of all of the evil in the world. Satan never has to work too hard because I am so willing to sin. Step two is my recognition of sin in me and my asking Jesus to forgive me. I repent of my sin. That means that I agree with the Lord that I have sinned and I purpose not to sin again. Turning away from sin is important because this is the act of surrender that carries me to the next step in my daily devotion to the Lord. Confession of my sin is step two in my daily devotionals.

Step three enables me to regain the lost momentum of the previous day. Thanksgiving helps me to see the activity of the Lord in my life. Everything I have and am comes from the Lord. I am grateful for it. The very air I breathe is a gift. Life itself is a gift. As an ambassador for the Lord Jesus I must be mindful of the mission I am on and the resources the Lord has given me. I can do all things through Christ. He is my strong tower and rock. The Lord calls me to serve not reign. I am His to rule. Thanksgiving is a time for me to count my blessings and rejoice in my time with the Lord. He is here with me.

Step four is the only step most people every use in their daily devotion with the Lord. Intercession is important and will always be a major part of our devotional time with the Lord. Intercession involves my concern for others and me. My needs are important and in truth steps one through three are about meeting my needs. I need the Lord. Step four is when I really lay out before the Lord my concern for others and the activity of life that I am involved in. This is a time for strengthening my friends and acquaintances. I am asking my Lord to help those around me, those in leadership of government and people that I know. The list of intercessory needs is great and is a real call for focus on my part. People need the Lord.

Confidence in today
Begins with Christ
Listening to His advice
Knowing He is there

What about the way?
That life unfolds
The day extols
Is this a good thing?

Endless pain?
Foolish gain?
What’s in a plan?
Can I serve this way?

Am I here today
To have a say
Meaningful walk
Valuable talk

Or must I surrender my life
To evil and strife
To be overwhelmed by despair
At the heartache life blares

No –Christ is all
He gives value and worth
To each moment I live
I turn to Him and He gives

I belong to Jesus
What I do reveals
His love and compassion
Even to those who are not His

Jesus is love
Jesus gives love
Love enables
Jesus gives life
Out of the angry desperation
Seen every day
Nations hate nations
People get in their way

So many noises
Too much talk
Few ever spend the time
To hear Jesus call

Every day Jesus is looking
For those who want to live
Giving life completely
Equipping man to live

And yet each day is a choice
Every moment I can be
A person of distinction
Jesus sets me free

Free from all my fears
Free from all my lacks
Equipped to grow and know
Jesus fills my soul

Of sin and shame

Beside Your fame

Reach into this world of grief

From man’s disease
Cleanse me in my heart

Relieve me of this pain

Stand with me
As I stride ahead
Not knowing what to think
Fear and dread whispering in my ear

To see Your face
